Mariela Alvarez-Sosa, MBA SPHR CPRP

Vice President, Physician Recruitment & Engagement Division - Memorial Healthcare System

Mariela works for Memorial Healthcare System, one of the largest public healthcare systems in the nation comprising of six hospitals in South Florida, eight clinics, two urgent care centers, and the 300+ member Memorial Physician Group. In her role, Mariela has oversight of system-wide physician recruitment and onboarding initiatives for all service lines. During her tenure at Memorial, Mariela has built a recruitment division from the ground up which is now responsible for all physician talent acquisition activities, including branding, sourcing, recruitment and onboarding. Before joining Memorial, Mariela served as Associate Administrator for Florida Medical Center, a Tenet facility. At FMC, she had oversight of strategic planning, program development, physician relations and physician recruitment, and was responsible for leading service line comprehensive marketing and communication campaigns and spearheading the hospital’s rebranding initiative. Mariela has also held similar roles for HCA and other Tenet South Florida facilities, including Hialeah Hospital and North Ridge Medical Center. Mariela started her career at the University of Miami where she last served as Director of External Relations. During her tenure with UM, she spearheaded town/gown projects between the university and city government, was responsible for logistics for campus-wide events and worked closely with Spanish-language media to represent research and colleges at the University’s main campus. Mariela received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Miami, is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and is a Fellow of AAPPR. Mariela also serves as Vice President of the Southeastern Physician Recruiter’s Association and frequently presents at educational conferences on the topic of recruitment processes, talent acquisition and employer branding.
